  • I’ve written here before about why undervalued stocks are a dividend investor’s best friend. In short, yields go up when prices go down, so buying dividend-paying stocks when they’re undervalued is a good way to “lock in” higher yields for your portfolio. In today’s Dividend Edition, I have two timely ideas...
  • There are basically three can manufacturers that supply small U.S. craft brewers, and it’s estimated that between 2011 and 2014 craft beer volume in cans increased from just 2% to 10%. I don’t know if that growth came purely at the expense of bottled beer, but I suspect with the number of breweries soaring, there was some incremental growth.
  • Undervalued stocks are difficult to find in this bull market. Here are five that look like huge bargains at current prices.
  • Way back in eighth grade, my history teacher, Max Pofcher, called me an iconoclast. And Mr. Pofcher was right. Being an iconoclast—or at least a nonconformist—has paid dividends in my life, not least by allowing me to see the stock market in ways different from the average investor. And when you can act contrary to the herd, you can make a lot of money! So, without further preamble, I present Five Wrong Ideas, otherwise known as five things most people believe that I don’t.
  • Some retail-related stocks are poised to benefit from Black Friday and beyond.
  • My investment strategy is to use a thematic approach, which allows me to invest in stocks much earlier than institutional investors and traders.
  • Artificial intelligence is one of the fastest-growing markets in the world, and artificial intelligence stocks have benefitted.
  • Healthcare (especially MedTech) is one of the few sectors that’s held up this year. Here are three small-cap MedTech stocks that look good.
  • Last year, after much soul-searching, I decided to trade in my trusty 1998 Toyota Avalon in favor of a smaller, better-for-the-environment car--2009 Toyota Matrix. According to Toyota, the 1998 Avalon gets 19 miles per gallon city and 27 miles per gallon highway, not bad for such a large car. But the Matrix gets 26 miles per gallon city and 32 miles per gallon highway. At the time, there was no such thing as the Cash for Clunkers program that’s available now. My Avalon wouldn’t have been eligible anyway, as it comes in well above the 18 combined mile-per-gallon qualifying mark. Well the program, which is supposed to run from July 1 to November 1, has been such a hit that it has already run out of funding. Congress has just added an additional $2 billion to the nearly depleted $1 billion the program started with.
  • My wife and I recently returned from a long trip to Australia (where a niece married an Aussie) and New Zealand, a trip that included waypoints in Los Angeles and Tahiti. I got some great ideas for stories, the first of which I’ll share with you today. It starts with our visit to The Broad, a museum in Los Angeles whose name rhymes with “road” — or “rode”— or “rowed.”
  • Real Estate Investment Trusts High Yields, Diversification and a Liquid Way to Own Real Estate By Nancy Zambell, Editor of Investment Digest and Dividend Digest During bull markets, there’s a category of equities that’s often ignored by mainstream investors. But during periods of market uncertainty, it’s a category that they run to for security—and...
  • This week I’m adding a recent earnings winner, American telecommunications networking equipment and software services supplier Ciena (CIEN).
  • The recent August expiration cycle was our second disappointing month in a row. And while 18 wildly successful months of trading out of 20 is a truly spectacular track record, when trades go wrong there is little doubt it’s painful in the moment. However, trading/investing isn’t about being a prisoner of the moment. It’s about building wealth over time, which the Cabot Profit Booster has been very successful at since its inception in early 2020.
  • We’ve been able to enjoy a break in the earnings action this week (finally), and without a lot of company-specific updates, we’ll keep things short and sweet today.

The main message is that the broad market continues to rise on the back of rate cut expectations and a falling 10-year yield (down to 4.35% from over 4.7% a couple weeks ago).
  • Inflation and recession fears make finding an income stock a challenge, but this infrastructure stock thrives in any environment.
  • MedTech has been trending well since June, and these three small-cap MedTech stocks all feature innovative products and growing momentum.
