Record Highs

Markets have continued making record highs this past month, although the pace of large daily jumps has slowed down.

Markets have continued making record highs this past month, although the pace of large daily jumps has slowed down.

Helped by the Federal Reserve’s decision to delay interest rate increases, a stable unemployment rate and surprising job growth, investor sentiment—from both advisors and investors—remains positive.

As I wrap up this newsletter, all of the Cabot team is gathered in Salem, Massachusetts for our fourth annual Investors Conference. We have a lot to talk about! We have a full menu of hands-on workshops, panels and roundtables to discuss current investment ideas and strategies, including alternative energy, commodities, emerging markets, options, turnaround stocks and investments that will benefit when interest rates do begin to rise.

And that includes some of the ideas in this month’s newsletter.

As you’ll see in our Market Views, our advisors remain mostly bullish, although with underlying caution.

Our Spotlight Stock is a Real Estate Investment Trust (REIT)—a company fairly new to the public stock markets—but with a very experienced management team that is operating in a real estate arena that is beginning to show some spark. My Feature expands on the reasons for the uptick in this specialized area, as well as the benefits of owning REITs.

This issue includes several high-yield picks, primarily from the energy sector, but we also offer a global insurer with attractive growth, yet trading at a discounted level. And speaking of value, that strategy is continuing to pay off handsomely for investors this year. And our advisors have continued delving into undervalued names, providing ideas in the automotive, financial and healthcare industries.

Growth companies are also on the rise, and here, we offer recommendations from the agricultural, financial, biotech and safety products sectors.

Energy stocks have rebounded nicely, but there are many companies that still have room to run, including the four we have selected this month. And besides our Spotlight Stock, our contributors found REIT selections in the data center, apartment, commercial and mortgage spaces for your review.

Lastly, our Funds and ETFs section offers a domestic, emerging market and bond fund for your consideration.
