WHAT TO DO NOW: While a couple handfuls of mega-cap stocks act well, we continue to see more stocks hit air pockets than get going on the upside, which, combined with our mixed market timing indicators, has us staying relatively close to shore. Today we’re going to sell one-third of our stake in Cava (CAVA)—like so many names, the stock has been unable to break through resistance, and now it (and its peer group) has come under heavy selling pressure. Our cash position will now be just over 40%.

RxSight (RXST) Still a Buy

The holiday-shortened week was mostly quiet outside of the AI/Semiconductors plays, which once again rose nicely. As for the rest of the market, by the numbers below it was a good week, though under the surface it feels like not many stocks are truly rallying.

For the week, the S&P 500 gained 1.35%, the Dow rose marginally, and the Nasdaq added another 2.9%.

At the index level, small-cap performance has been unremarkable (though stable) for a while, but under the hood, there continue to be plenty of performing names, and we’ve been fortunate enough to be in a number of them.

That said, there’s been some shifting of the deck this week with a few growthy stocks (TMDX, RXST) taking a bit of a hit. On the flip side, continued performance from the likes of ENVX and new addition (from June) AORT is very nice to see.

It was yet another strong week for the market and countless stocks, many of which are breaking out to new highs. At some point the market may cool off, but for now at least, I’m not seeing any truly worrying signs. And in fact, the S&P 500 closed at a new record high as the index gained 1.44% on the week, while the Dow added 1.56%, and the Nasdaq rallied 1.63%.

It was yet another strong week for the market and countless stocks, many of which are breaking out to new highs. At some point the market may cool off, but for now at least, I’m not seeing any truly worrying signs. And in fact, the S&P 500 closed at a new record high as the index gained 1.44% on the week, while the Dow added 1.56%, and the Nasdaq rallied 1.63%.

The bull market is now two years old and shows no signs of stopping.

Since the bear market low in October of 2022, the S&P 500 has risen more than 60%. It has been powered by the artificial intelligence catalyst, a surprisingly resilient economy, and the peaking of interest rates. Overall earnings are projected to be strong, and the market could get a further boost from AI-specific earnings this quarter.

The two-year-old bull market is about to meet third-quarter earnings. And things look good.

The bull market is alive and well and shows no signs of stopping. Since the bear market low in October of 2022, the S&P 500 has risen over 60%. It has been powered by the artificial intelligence catalyst, a surprisingly resilient economy, and the peaking of interest rates. The current “soft landing” expectation means we are getting rate cuts but no economic pain. That’s good news.

Historically, when the Fed starts to cut rates, homebuilder stocks are the first to benefit. And one high-profile homebuilder tends to outperform the rest.

The market saw a ton of volatility in July, August and then with a good-sized early pullback in September, but this was the third straight week of quieter action, with most indexes up less than 1% on the week—though, encouragingly, we did see better action among some growth funds and individual stocks.

Sell Modine (MOD)

Today, a whopping eight Profit Booster positions will expire. Most are “slam-dunk,” full-profit trades, while others will go down to the wire.

The big takeaway, before we dive in, is we are going to let the situation play itself out, and come Monday/Tuesday of next week we will revisit our profits, as well as how we will manage the remaining positions.
