Growth stocks were pummeled today, reversing yesterday’s rebound and driving the Nasdaq to its 50-day line. At day’s end, the Dow lost 168 points and the Nasdaq closed down 90 points.

Cannabis stocks remain out of favor. It has been a long wait, but it is still too soon to give up on key federal reform that could help the sector and boost stocks. That’s the view of a top-five cannabis company CEO.

Meanwhile, states continue to make steady progress on legalization.

None of this should be a surprise. Polls consistently show that a majority of voters favor legalization. Many politicians at both the state and national levels are responding. Beyond polls, we see growing support for cannabis in consumer spending trends. Wallet share continues to rise. I provide more details on these trends below in the news roundup section.

In today’s note, we discuss pertinent developments for some of the stocks in the portfolio, including Alcoa (AA), Dollar Tree (DLTR), Intel (INTC), Kenvue (KVUE), Pan American Silver (PAAS), Paramount Global (PARA), UiPath (PATH) and SLB Ltd. (SLB).

Dollar Tree (DLTR) had a big week in the wake of earnings, hitting a new high for the year to date.

The market we have right now is the strongest in years, and that’s what we need for the next star to emerge.

It’s been a challenging year for investors in cannabis stocks, but the good news today is that the stock market as a whole is stronger, and cannabis stocks are trending higher as well, especially in Canada, where the stocks were thoroughly oversold.

So I’m adding two new Canadian stocks to the portfolio.
