One of our portfolio stocks moves to Hold

The Financial Times reported this morning that this portfolio stock was in talks, in late December, to possibly be acquired by AIG, Prudential Financial Group or Prudential Financial.

Ahead of next week’s March issue, I’m going to make a few changes to our portfolio today.

Small-cap cloud software stocks have been on a roll lately, and these three are showing strong momentum heading into 2024.

The market continues to remain strong in the face of economic data that’s anything but. As we’ve already discussed at great length, this is because the market is forward looking and there’s been enough potential positive news around treatments and the timeline to a vaccine that the path of least resistance has been higher.

Following last week’s big decline, the market has shown some resilience, and we continue to see a growing number of stocks showing great resilience. Even so, our Cabot Tides green light from two weeks ago has disappeared and the longer-term Cabot Trend Lines remain down, so we continue to advise a cash-heavy posture as we patiently wait for confirmation the buyers have taken control. We have no changes in the Model Portfolio tonight.

Market volatility has picked up. Stocks are popping and dropping all over the place. In other words, welcome to the thick of earnings season.
