Today’s big-volume selloff has damaged Wynn Resorts (WYNN) in the short-term, so I’m switching the stock from Buy to Hold.

This stock reported first-quarter EPS that fell well short of expectations last night and the stock is trading 6% lower pre-market.

Health care industry stocks are selling off today due to some negative earnings reports and, possibly more importantly, pessimistic management comments on earnings calls. Two of our portfolio holdings, Amgen (AMGN) and AbbVie (ABBV), are affected. Both reported earnings in the last 24 hours and we are lowering our ratings on both as a result.

ADP reported strong first-quarter EPS but slightly weaker-than-expected revenue yesterday, and the stock has declined over 5%.

GameStop (GME) reported fourth-quarter and full-year 2016 results after the market closed yesterday.

The broad market finally firmed up last week. After closing below their 50-day lines the previous Friday, the Dow, S&P 500 and Nasdaq all found support early last week, then rebounded strongly at the end of the week. However, while the market is firming, four of our holdings stumbled on earnings last week.

Costco (COST) opened 4% lower today following the company’s second-quarter report, which missed estimates.

GM has officially agreed to sell its European business to Peugeot. The deal was announced this morning and GM is trading slightly higher pre-market.

This stock reported earnings that met estimates this morning, but revenue fell short of expectations and the stock is about 3% lower mid-morning.

Mattel (MAT) fell 17% yesterday after the toy company reported fourth-quarter and full-year earnings that fell short of every analyst estimate.

We’re going to book our profits in one of our stocks today. Today’s sale will likely net us a profit of about 48%, for a total return, including dividends, of about 49%.

General Motors (GM) is trading nearly 4% lower today after March auto sales data fell short of estimates.

Sell Reynolds American (RAI). The company received a $56.50 per share takeover offer from British American Tobacco this morning, a 20% premium to RAI’s closing price yesterday.

GameStop (GME) is about 5% lower today after Target (TGT) reported earnings that missed estimates and issued disappointing guidance. Other store-based retailers are also pulling back today. Analysts fear that Target stores’ lower traffic and comp sales are a bellwether for other brick-and-mortar retailers.

The S&P 500 (SPX) stock index rose to new all-time highs in July, commenced a pullback during the final week of that month, then traded between 2840-2940 in a very orderly pattern during August. For that, I am grateful.

This is one of those periods when there’s not much going on in the market. Earnings season is essentially over, the summer is winding down, kids are about to go back to school and it feels like fall is right around the corner.
