I haven’t added any new stocks for a while because we’ve already got 30 stocks in the portfolios. Our current stocks have mostly been rising: the good, the bad and the ugly. However, I always have a good list of stocks that are waiting in the wings, so I really should rotate into some of them.

U.S. stocks delivered great performance in January and are now taking a breather. As such, I expect the S&P 500 index to trade between 2625 and 2825 for a while. The trading range might end up being a little higher or a little lower, but for now, a repetition of the trading range that took place between late October through early December seems most likely to occur. I anticipate that the market indexes will continue advancing later this year.

The bull market is alive and well, as the intermediate-term negative signal I mentioned in recent weeks has been erased by a new positive signal. Happily, we sold very few stocks during the correction (most of ours behaved very well) so today’s recommendation means the portfolio is once again full.

And what is today’s recommendation? A major provider of global infrastructure services whose stock has low risk at this point and good potential for profit as the world slowly gets back to business.

The New Year promises to be a great one for dividend stocks. After underperforming the market in 2020, the stars are aligning to make 2021 the year of the dividend.

The distribution of the coronavirus vaccine promises to bring this pandemic to an end and unleash a full and robust recovery in 2021. Energy stocks that had been neglected in the market recovery have caught fire in anticipation of a full recovery in 2021.



A huge and overdue rally in the sector has paused temporarily ahead of a very promising year, giving us an opportunity to get into one of the very best stocks in the sector at a still cheap price.



Global energy giant Chevron (CVX) currently offers the rare combination of great value and momentum, as well as a fat yield. The stock has already moved higher, the rally has a long way to go.

It’s been seven weeks since the marijuana sector topped, and every day the picture of this correction gets clearer. For example, today saw a rally across the board in the sector, but if you look at the charts, you see it’s really just an inconsequential blip.

Thus, defense remains the watchword for now. In fact, I am selling one stock in this issue, taking profits and freeing up a little more cash.



Long term, however, prospects for the sector remain very bright, as was made clear by our companies’ latest quarterly reports. And of course, we will always hold the leaders of the sector.

Next week, Volkswagen reports its full results – we’ll include more comments as needed. That should wrap up this earnings season.
