Cabot Weekly Review (Video)

In this week’s stock market video, Mike Cintolo talks about his continued defensive stance amidst the market’s downtrend, with the high-profile retail debacle (TGT, WMT) hurting the cause. That said, growth stocks have stopped leading on the downside for the time being, and the plunge in defensive stocks while that’s happening is something to note. Mike runs though a big list of names to watch, and even mentions one sector he believes will lead the next growth advance, whenever that begins.

Cabot Growth Investor

Bi-weekly Update June 9: The major indexes are down modestly today after the European Central Bank laid out a plan to tighten policy. As of 215 pm, the Dow was down 157 points and the Nasdaq was off 129 points.

Bi-weekly Issue June 2: The market’s evidence has clearly improved during the past couple of weeks, so much so that our Cabot (and Growth) Tides are now on the fence, while our old Two-Second Indicator is starting to pick up on a bullish change in character for the broad market.

Cabot Top Ten Trader

Movers & Shakers June 10: As we head into the weekend, it’s shaping up to be a red week—just about all of the major indexes are down 2% or so coming into Friday, with growth funds down a touch less.

Weekly Issue June 6: The market’s evidence continues to take steps in the right direction and, by our measures, the intermediate-term trend is now on the fence—a couple of decent days from here could produce a green light.

Cabot Options Trader and Cabot Options Trader Pro

Note that the current week’s Weekly Update, earnings updates, position updates and stocks on watch are posted on the website in the Market Update section, which is deleted each week.

Cabot Options Basic Trade Alert: June 9: The market has been chopping around this week ahead of the “big” CPI report tomorrow, and the Fed announcement next Wednesday. Similarly, option activity has been mostly mixed. Big picture, it feels like traders are mostly waiting for tomorrow’s number, and market reaction, before putting high conviction money to work.

Cabot Options Basic & Pro Trade Alert: June 7: Sell a Third of Existing Position: Sell a Third of your Antero Resources (AR) November 45 Calls for $10.00 or more.

Cabot Options Basic & Pro Trade Alert: June 7: Covered Call: Buy Macy’s (M) Stock and Sell the July 24 Call (exp. 7/15) for a net price of $22.60 or less.

Cabot Options Trader Basic Weekly Update June 6: The market is fairly quiet today, and option activity is beyond slow … it’s like watching paint dry. However…I wanted to bring to your attention Antero Resources (AR), which will host its annual shareholder meeting tomorrow.

Cabot Options Trader Pro Weekly Update June 6: Long positions: AR, F, MRVL, ONON, OXY, QQQ, UBER, XLF

Cabot Undervalued Stocks Advisor

Weekly Update June 8: Our weekly note usually follows the theme of “what’s on our minds.” The topics range from discussions about individual stocks to the overall market to inflation and other matters. We usually have a lot on our minds, so it’s mostly a matter of picking one.

Monthly Issue June 1: We’re at the end of the beginning of the post-pandemic era. We moved shares of a healthcare stock from HOLD to SELL as it reached our price target. And, we moved shares of a consumer stock from BUY to HOLD as we want to re-think our outlook and valuation.

Cabot Stock of the Week

Weekly Issue June 8: While the market officially remains in a downtrend, various indicators in recent weeks, combined with terrible news and sentiment, tell us the market bottom may have passed. But until we see real strength, continued caution is advised.

Cabot Explorer

Bi-weekly Issue June 9: Aside from Sea (SE), which zoomed from 80 to 88 this past week, Explorer stocks were largely flat, which to some these days is a good week. This week we look at the history of market pullbacks and some encouraging analysis on bounce-backs and trade before getting to a new recommendation from Shanghai.

Bi-weekly Update June 2: Explorer positions had an up week as the S&P 500 has begun a turnaround from bear market territory and is now down “only” about 13% for the year. This means it is up around 6% since hitting its recent low on May 19 as the Fed has softened its tone and China tries to get growth going.

Cabot Small-Cap Confidential

Weekly Update June 9: After trading as low as 1139 on May 12 the S&P 600 Small Cap Index has staged a modest recovery, crossing back above the January and February lows of around 1230 two weeks ago. While more progress to the upside would certainly be welcome, this is a relative victory right now.

Monthly Issue June 1: The market continues to be messy, but we’re going to take a partial swing at a profitable software company playing in a big, growth market – cloud services.

Cabot Dividend Investor

Monthly Issue June 8: It’s a raging bear market in technology. But technology has been by far the best performing sector for well over a decade for good reasons.

Weekly Update June 1: Things have gotten a little better in the market. The situation has gone from bad to crummy. The S&P 500 rallied from the lows to move away from the bear market precipice.

Cabot Early Opportunities

Alert June 10: Today’s inflation data (CPI) wasn’t expected to be great but was even a little worse than anticipated as consumer prices rose 8.6%. That’s up from 8.5% in March and 8.3% in April. One can slice and dice the data a lot of ways but if you want to flag the main issues, they are probably energy and food prices.

Monthly Issue May 18: Tyler’s top pick Axonics (AXNX), is developing disruptive solutions for patients that suffer from overactive bladder (OAB), Urinary Retention (UR) and Fecal Incontinence (FI). The most common symptom of these ailments is the frequent and urgent need to go to the bathroom. They are often the result of abnormal communication between the brain and the bladder and bowel.

Cabot Profit Booster

Weekly Issue June 2: While it may be counterintuitive, the bad economic data last week may have been just what the stock market bulls were looking for, as the disappointing numbers caused traders to price in less aggressive interest rate hike expectations for the remainder of the year, which had weighed on the market for months.

Alert May 20: The market has been a mess for the past several months, as countless stocks have completely fallen apart. It’s been UGLY. That being said, the Cabot Profit Booster held up fairly well this month, as I structured our trades defensively, and the large call premiums we collected offset the market’s decline.

Cabot Micro-Cap Insider

Monthly Issue June 8: Today, I’m recommending a company that has grown revenue at a 30% CAGR and EBITDA an 80% CAGR over the past 10 years. Despite this impressive growth, the company trades at just 5.3x EBITDA.

Weekly Update June 1: Last week, I closed out my BBX Capital (BBX) recommendation for a profit of +172%.

Alert May 27: I originally recommended buying BBX Capital (BBXIA) in October 2020 at a price of 3.17, shortly after its spin-off from Bluegreen Vacation Holdings (BVH).

Cabot Income Advisor

Weekly Update June 8: Things are looking better. The market stopped going down. Now it’s going sideways. That’s better.

Monthly Issue May 25: It’s too soon to buy new stocks aggressively. But there is a safer place in the meantime to generate a high yield without much downside in the near term.

Cabot Turnaround Letter

Weekly Update June 10: This week’s Friday Update includes comments on our companies. There were no ratings changes or earnings reports.

Alert June 6: We are moving shares of Marathon Oil (MRO) from Buy to Sell. We are reluctant to sell Marathon, as the company’s cash generating power remains incredibly strong. The shares are not expensive but are no longer the bargain they once were

Monthly Issue May 25: While the stock market has surged since its pandemic low, shares of many companies have sold off sharply and now trade below their March 23, 2020 level.

Cabot Money Club

Stock of the Month June 9: Are you tired of turning on your television first thing in the morning and getting heartburn over the market’s gyrations? Yeah, me, too. So, I’m swearing it off. I’m only going to peek at it a couple of times a day, since it doesn’t seem to be finishing the day as it starts, and I just don’t need the angst.

Monthly Magazine June 1: The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed May 18 down 1,164.52 points. Rates are rising, and inflation is cutting into our discretionary funds. It’s disheartening, for sure, but don’t give up! There are ways to maximize your portfolio and minimize your risk during these uncertain times. Just read on for some ideas that will help you navigate these uncertain times.

Cabot ETF Strategist

Weekly Update June 7: The Undiscovered Portfolio within ETF Strategist is delivering exactly the kind of return we’d hope to see in a down market, with three of four funds showing gains as of Thursday.

Monthly Issue May 10: One key tenet of asset allocation is risk management. You’ll find that principle to be much more salient when it comes to investing an entire portfolio, as opposed to simply trading individual stocks.

Ask the Experts

Cabot Growth Investor

Question: Mike, of the oil stocks, except for Devon Energy (DVN), would you find any of them still interesting? And which green companies would you find interesting as well?

Mike: I think most oil stocks are a bit hot here, but something like OXY, AR or CIVI on dips would be tempting. The group will shake out at some point, if not outright correct. As for green names, I don’t follow many, but I guess ENPH would be my favorite there, but it still needs some work. Great growth, great execution, stock has been basing for 17 months, but perked up of late.
